post-imgAny Coloradan can tell you that there is never a short supply of outdoor activities to be apart of. From skiing in the winter, springtime hiking, summer rafting or bicycle tours in the fall there is never a dull season here. Now that summer is in full swing, the topic of cannabis use and exercise gets brought up more and more. Whether you call the Front Range or the Western Slope home, there is no shortage of places and great locations to get exercise and stay fit. Those who enjoy an active lifestyle may be asking themselves, “What is the best way to consume while being active?” or “Why haven’t I tried hiking high?” The important factor is knowing your body, tolerance level and always ensure you are consuming responsibly no matter where you are. Some scientific studies seem to indicate that exercise releases previously stored THC from fat cells that get released back into the blood stream during periods of physical exertion. According to a study from the Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence that was published in 2013, “These results suggest that exercise may elevate blood THC levels by releasing dormant THC from fat stores.” (Wong) Another study came to similar conclusions regarding staying fit and cannabis use. “We found that marijuana use was associated with lower levels of fasting insulin and smaller waist circumference.” (Penner, 2013) So the “runner’s high” thing might be pretty accurate and using cannabis may also help keep you thin. If running isn't your thing there are still plenty of ways to enjoy hiking and the outdoors in Colorado with some hash included. Companies like Dabado and Dr. Dabber have created great mobile dabbing units that do not require a torch making it easy to keep a unit with some Dabble Extracts in a backpack. The important thing to consider is awareness of your surrounding and always being responsible when consuming. While out and about on a hike or fishing trip, do you best to take a quick and safe dab break with either a mobile dab setup or a reliable hash pen that can be refilled with your favorite Dabble flavors. If you stay safe and consume responsibly, smoking some hash can be a great addition to a day of hiking or as a little pre-workout boost.
